Membership at Northwest
The decision to become a member at Northwest is an important step in connecting to the church and participating in the mission of inviting people into the unexpected joy of desperate dependence on Jesus.
Membership is important for your spiritual walk.
In Hebrews 10:24-25, we are told to not abandon meeting together so that we can spur each other on toward love and good deeds. This means that we need a local church, and the people within, to be encouraged in our journey with Jesus. You need others and others need you.
Membership is important to the church's mission.
The church, as a whole, has a mission of proclaiming Jesus and making disciples. This is done through the members of the church. Not merely members on a list, but like members of the body - hands, feet, eyes, mouth, etc. - that are all committed and working together in unity for the goal (1 Cor 12:12-31).
How do I become a member?
Step 1: Join us at the next New Member Workshop on September 24th from 8:30 to 10am. Please register to let us know you plan to attend. If the date does not work, please let us know by emailing Paul Thomas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Step 2: Sign up for an elder interview. Interviews last 30 minutes and couples can sign up together. Please make sure to have attended the workshop and submitted an application prior to signing up.
How often is the New Member Workshop held?
Usually, twice a year - in the fall and spring.
Is membership required in order to get involved at Northwest?
It is not required for connecting to a small group or most serving opportunities (although you may be asked to pursue membership for certain opportunities). It is required for participating in our congregational votes.
Is membership in the Bible?
Yes, but not in the sense of being a member of a club or frequent flyer program. It has to do more with being members of Christ’s body, each committing to and valuing the other members and working to their strengths for the goal of making Christ known to the world. 1 Cor 12:12-31, Phil 2:1-11, Heb 10:24-25
What are the requirements to be a member?
In order to become a member, you need to have trusted in Jesus for life and salvation and are continuing to walk with Him. Secondly, you need to meet with an elder to tell your story of how you know Jesus and are walking with Him. Thirdly, you must be 18 years of age or older.
What are the responsibilities of members?
We would ask that you:
- Walk with Jesus.
- Make worshipping with us on Sundays a priority.
- Find a smaller group to connect to so that you are known and know others.
- Use your gifts and talents to serve inside or outside of the church for the building up of the body.
- Participate in our congregational votes.
- Pray for the church and its leaders/staff.
- Seek unity.
