Senior Pastor Neil Tomba guides us through 1 Corinthians 11 as we learn what it means to "come to the Lord's table."

Thank Goodness It's Wednesday

This fall, Northwest is revamping the way we do Wednesday nights. It's not just about dinner anymore. To take a peek at our new fall Wednesday lineup, click here.

Part I: Slavery to Sin
Nearly nine years ago, I found myself in a college dorm room face to face with the unexpected. His name was Mondrell. To understand what made this encounter unexpected, I must tell you about myself prior to stepping into that room. I was raised in a small town in Nebraska by parents that loved and cared for me deeply. My parents taught my younger brother and I to have some sort of faith in God, and for them that was best conveyed through the Roman Catholic Church. God seemed to be a possibility for me; after all it made sense that there had to be somebody in control of the world. This was my concept of God until the unexpected; my father lost his job and found himself with no other option than to take a job in Texas. I was fourteen at this point and my whole world was turned upside down. I began questioning the purpose of life, since everything that brought mine meaning was soon to be taken away. I began despising my parents, since it was they who were destroying the world that I was comfortable with. And, I became indifferent to religion and the church, since it had no relevance to my unexpected situation. I began to search for meaning to life by experimenting with drugs and discovered a peace that only being high brought. I believed I could discover true meaning only by entering some sort of transcendent reality.

Part II: Called by God
This pattern of hedonism continued until my parents persuaded me to go to college. It is here that I found myself face to face with the unexpected. I had planned to room with a friend from college, but to my surprise when I arrived at the dorm there was a mix up in the paperwork and I would instead be rooming with a guy named Mondrell. I soon discovered that Mondrell and I shared a similar background, yet something was different about Mondrell. Mondrell and I would stay up at night getting to know one another and during our conversations Mondrell told me the most unexpected story of all time; that God, the creator of all things, became a man, walked and talked among ordinary men, died on a cross and rose from the grave in order to redeem sinful humanity. After reading more scripture, provided to me by Mondrell, I found myself with no other choice but to place my faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Part III: Persevered in Faith
To this day, the reality of the gospel fuels me to live in gratitude for the unexpected encounter of Jesus Christ with the world. It fuels me to give of myself to this God who chooses unexpected people to accomplish His unexpected plan!
