HOW TO WRITE YOUR OWN JESUS STORY

Part I: In Slavery to Sin

As you write this part of your testimony, think about how your life looked prior to believing in Christ. The Bible describes us as enemies of God, slaves to sin, incapable of any righteousness on our own. Write how your life reflected these truths that we find in Scripture. This can be as detailed or as vague as you desire for it to be—it is not always demanded that you give every graphic detail; however, do not allow shame to hinder you ability to tell your story. What you describe in this section is who you were apart from Christ=you have since been covered with the righteousness of Christ so do not allow your ministry to be hindered by what you write about here. For those of you that began to follow Christ at a young age, this section will be more difficult to write, By God’s grace you may not have a lot that you remember to write here. In that case, you nay need to describe your sinful state more from simply what the Bible says about you, i.e, “While I was only four years old when I accepted Christ, the Bible states that I was conceived in iniquity and that even from my mother’s womb I was a sinner.”

Part II: Called by God

Most of you probably remember a distinct time—whether it was an earth-shattering moment, a school year, or a retreat—Where the Lord began working in your heart to bring you to Himself. Sometimes It looks like a drastic change in a moment, sometimes it looks like a gradual pull that you don’t even realize had started until you look back and see how different you are . So, what did it look like when God began working in your heart and then you found yourself loving Him and claiming the name of Christ” Did He put someone in your life to plant seeds” Did an event occur that changed your perspective? How did you begin to feel about your sin?

Part III: Persevered in Faith

Your testimony does not end with when you became a Christian. Your testimony continues each day as God continues to work in your life, grow you in your faith, and ultimately persevere you throughout your life. Describe how God has grown you—whether it be through a discipleship relationship, a church, a ministry His Word, etc. Some people’s testimonies may have gap between their call and when they truly began walking with the Lord. No problem—write about how God has continued to work in you so that even today you are able to claim the name of Christ.
