Being "the new kid" is always tough. Being "the new kid" in a new school in a new country with a new language and a new culture with all new experiences can be really tough! After School seeks to help with those transitions.
In partnership with Heart House Dallas, the After School Program (Monday - Friday, 3:30-6:00pm) at the Northwest Community Center is a place to help kids with their homework, while providing fun, educational learning experiences as well as holistic care. The couple of hours we are available are an invaluable resource.
If you have a love for kids - especially kids that can use an encouraging word - there is a place for you here. As a volunteer, you don't need to be a math or English expert. Simply ask questions to support the student, and be a friend. As a part a volunteer with this program, you are empowering children and youth to begin the process of learning how to live in a new culture by being a friend.
In addition your demonstration of patience and interest will exhibit Christ's love, establishing you as a trustworthy person hopefully providing you and others opportunities to invite them into Gospel-centered conversations.
